Todd Bentley (born 10 January 1976) is a Canadian "Christian" evangelist. After a brief period of retirement connected with the breakdown of his marriage and subsequent invalid re-marriage, he has returned to ministry. Bentley's physical appearance has been noted for being very unconventional for that of a self-professed "Christian". He has dozens of tattoos and multiple facial piercings in direct contradiction with the Bible (Lev. 19:28). Bentley's preaching style is also flamboyant, known for mannerisms like shouting 'Bam!' during his delivery.
Todd Bentley (born 1976), the leader of the 2008 Lakeland, Florida, "Healing Revival," is a Canadian-born ex-convict (convicted of multiple counts of sexual assault prior to his "conversion") who is now an itinerant mass "evangelist" who leads "Fresh Fire Ministries" of Abbotsford, British Columbia. Bentley's website advertises, "Todd travels throughout North America, sparking revival fire and equipping the body in power evangelism and healing ministry."
Todd Bentley's 2008 Lakeland, Florida, "Healing Revival" was promoted by self-proclaimed prophet Bob Jones (no connection to Bob Jones University), William Branham (a proponent of a racist-hate doctrine called "serpent seed"), IHOP-KC (International House of Prayer), and other charismatic ministries. MSNBC reported in May 2008, "The meetings have outgrown four venues, including a local convention center that seats roughly 7,000. Now they meet under an air-conditioned tent that can accommodate 10,000 on the grounds of the local airport. Organizers estimate that more than 140,000 people from at least 40 nations have attended meetings here."
The focus of Bentley's revivals is primarily on the manifestation of sign gifts, claiming an ability to generate "oil from his palms" and to produce "gold dust from his pores". Among Bentley's radical teachings which set him apart from the common Protestant sects is astral travelling (the practice of leaving one's body and travelling about disembodied). Astral projection, aka out of body experiences, separates one from the protection of the Holy Trinity. In essence this would leave the soul vulnerable to demonic entities and therefore the results would be either demonic possession or the soul being sucked out of the body and into hell meaning dying in their sleep or trance state.
In one of his revival meetings, Bentley announced that God told him it was more important for him to "get them to believe in the angel" who visits him, whom he calls Emma, than to preach Jesus. Further, he claims to be guided by female "angels of finance." Bentley attributes even his conversion experience to his "angel." Critics of Bentley have published their observation that Emma-o is the name of a Japanese deity who rules the underworld in Japanese mythology, after which, Bentley removed all references to "the angel Emma" from his websites.
Demons are skillful in music and illusions both of which coincide with the other (appearing as an angel of light, but in actuality they are fearsome enemies, so fearsome crafty and cunning an adversary, that without the assistance of God (the Holy Trinity) through Jesus in Mary Mankind would have surely been lost a long time ago. There are unfortunately many corrupted by these false signs/wonders performed by the devil and his pack of reprobate miscreants.
Todd Bentley's ministry website states that he places "no limit on further revelation." Where personal revelation does occur, if it is truly from God, it will not contradict Scripture or lead souls to hell.
Clearly, Todd Bentley is in contact with spirits of some kind. But what kind of spirits are they? First John 4:1 warns, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." See also 1 Thessalonians 5:21; "Test everything; hold fast what is good."
Bentley, who in order to add to the power of his testimony had demonic tattoos etched onto his arms in 2005, about eight years AFTER his "conversion," fails such tests. As Matthew 24:24 warns, "False Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect." False prophets are always in the employ of Satan, whether knowingly or unknowingly, who "walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8). Jesus warned about the profusion of false prophets in the last days: "And many false prophets will rise and deceive many" (Matthew 24:11). Do not be deceived by Todd Bentley.
The manifestations occurring at Todd Bentley's church and crusades are exactly like the types of behaviour displayed by demon possessed individuals, shamanic trance dancers, yoga gurus and hyper-Pentacostals experiencing Kundalini-shakti awakening, Laughter Yoga practitioners (see Dangers of Yoga), and idol worshippers experiencing various stages of occult phenomena and possession states.
Furthermore, many people at Todd Bentley's "revival" meetings are displaying the same types of behavior that those who have lost their minds in occult ashram's display - mindless, animalistic, sensory overload chaos. Many people at these meetings lose control of their basic body motor skills and they jerk, vibrate, shake and move spasmodically.
These are not revival meetings! These are at best hyped up displays of human carnality, and at worst, displays of occult power that are very quickly leading people into the world of the occulty oppressed. It should be no surprise if some people at these meetings actually become fully demon possessed as a result of Mr. Bentley's "anointing" (see Danger of the Charismatic Movement).
We do not state our opinion here in order to be funny or to poke fun at Mr. Bentley. We look at him with great sadness as he proceeds to mislead millions of people into spiritual deception...men, women, children, the elderly, the handicapped, and the mentally unstable flocking to him as if he is the answer to their problems. It appears that Todd Bentley is also clairvoyant, which could be a sign of demonic possession (Acts 16:16-18).
